The Youth Cultural Centre Maribor has announced the results of the student call for submissions as part of the 30th International Festival of Computer Arts (MFRU 2024), which attracted numerous exceptional projects. After reviewing all submissions, the members of the expert jury, Maja Burja, Simon Streljaj Gmajner, and Lara Mejač, unanimously awarded the student prizes for 2024. The second prize was granted to our student Lazar Mihajlović, and the third prize to our student Ana Evtić.

2nd Prize:
Lazar Mihajlović: Dreamer

The jury awarded the second student prize of MFRU 2024 to our student Lazar Mihajlović for his work Dreamer, in which he used live coding and artificial intelligence to explore the unconscious in the interaction between the performer and the audience within an open performative situation.

Jury justification:
“Among the submissions received, the work stood out for its content and technical completeness, innovatively combining visual and auditory elements through synthetic and improvisational technological approaches, highlighting the technological processes that are usually in the background. Due to the dynamic nature of the work, which evolves and changes with each implementation, the jury views the second prize and the opportunity for exhibition as a chance for a new contextualization of the work and as an encouragement for further development both in content and in technical aspects.”

3rd Prize:
Ana Evtić: Time Continuum

The third student prize of MFRU 2024 was awarded to our student Ana Evtić for her artistic intervention Time Continuum, in which she explored various dimensions and understandings of temporality. Using personal archival material, she created a hypnotic and branching flow of time and space, constantly transforming and turning everyday moments into a meditative and speculative journey.

Jury justification:
“The jury sees Ana Evtić’s submission as a promising project that, in the form of a spatial installation, successfully transforms personal footage into dynamic visuals that attempt to break free from the constraints of time and space. The jury believes that the work has significant potential to further develop its immersive environment in dialogue with a new exhibition space and context.”

Sincere congratulations to the winners!
