Opening of the new production facilities of the School of Arts, University of Nova Gorica.

You are invited to join us on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 6:00 PM, for the opening of the production facilities of the School of Arts, University of Nova Gorica. The event will take place at the school’s premises in Rožna Dolina (Vipavska 13, 5000 Nova Gorica). The event will coincide with the opening of the student semester exhibition, where visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the artistic projects of our students.

Academy of Arts UNG – 30 Years of Innovative Education
The School of Arts was established in 2008 as a part of the University of Nova Gorica, originally as a Higher School of Art. It builds upon the experience of the Famul Stuart School of Applied Arts, which, since 1994, has offered educational programs in the fields of digital media, environment, restoration, sculpture, and ceramics. The University of Nova Gorica thus continues a 30-year tradition of continuous development and innovative educational approaches, where knowledge and skills are passed on through practical examples and contextual projects.
In 2016, the school acquired the title of an academy, further strengthening its role in the artistic and academic fields.

Development and Expansion of Academic Spaces
Over the years, the School of Arts has developed and is now expanding into new spaces in Rožna Dolina, where a new multifunctional production spaces have been created. These spaces include a film and photography studio, a studio for working with materials and a future screening space. In the future, this space will provide students with additional opportunities to conduct advanced art workshops and film their bachelor’s and master’s theses.

The main investor in the new production facilities is the University of Nova Gorica, which strives to provide students with access to high-quality, modern teaching and creative spaces. In the future, the space will be further enhanced with additional production equipment, some of which will be funded by the GO!Studio project, whose workshops are already underway.

Connecting Art with the Environment
After successfully contributing to the revitalization of the historic Fužine Castle (1994–2004) and the modernization of Bežigrad Manor (2004–2012) in Ljubljana as the School of Applied Arts Famul Stuart, the School of Arts relocated in 2012 to Gorizia, on the Italian side of the border, where it operated for eight years in a ‘borderless’ international space. In recent years, it has continued its artistic mission on the Slovenian side of the border, in Rožna Dolina.

We invite you to join us for this significant event and to explore both the new production facilities and the work of our talented students.
