A rich cross-cultural exchange for cinematic discovery of history and transcending borders

In the previous academic year, students from various fields of study from Germany, Slovenia and France participated in the project “What did 1989 change for us?” by collaborating in joint filmmaking. Under the guidance of Slovenian filmmaker Anja Medved and French documentarian Julie Biro, they explored family memories of this landmark year and thought about the visible and invisible boundaries that define our lives. A three-part short feature film and a reportage on joint filmmaking were created.

The workshop took place in 3 different locations – Berlin (Germany, September 2021), Nova Gorica (Slovenia, July 2022) and Coutances (France, September 2022). Our students who are participating in the project: Tamara Taskova, Ana Logar, Karin Likar, Tamara Kirina, Kostja Ronkali and Ana Prebil (participated in the Berlin workshop).

The project in partnership with Crossborder Factory from Berlin, Du coin de l’oeil from Paris and Zavod KINOkašča/CINEMattic from Nova Gorica was created in collaboratiob with the Academy of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica and the support of OFAJ – DFJW.

The documentary reportage about joint filmmaking titled ˝BORDERS OF A BORDER OF A BORDER˝ by Anja Medved, Julie Biro, Karin Likar, Tamara Taskova and Tamara Kirina will be presented on the 15th anniversary of Slovenia’s entry into the Schengen area, when our city also came to life without border barriers on Wednesday, 21 December 2022 at 19:00 at Mostovna (99A IX Corps Road, Nova Gorica).

The film was produced by Zavod KINOkašča/CINEMattic and co-produced by Crossborder Factory from Berlin and Du coin de l’oeil from Paris in cooperation with the Academy of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica. The film was made possible by the Municipality of Nova Gorica.
