The year 2025 is a special one not only for Nova Gorica, but also for its University, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Under the roof of the University of Nova Gorica (UNG), the School of Arts has found its home for the past fifteen years, although its independent beginnings also date back three decades. The UNG School of Arts is increasingly active internationally, while also engaging in the local cultural scene in various ways. Through its annual and semester exhibitions, it opens its doors widely to the public, collaborates with the Pixxelpoint festival, and each year presents a curated selection of student film and animation works at the Kulturni dom (Cultural Centre) Nova Gorica.
This autumn, however, the School is taking a new step by presenting—for the first time in the main gallery of its hometown—a broader selection of recent student works, including photography, installations, and set designs for animated films. The exhibition, titled We Are Here, explores the questions facing the young generation in today’s world. It also reflects the fact that, after many relocations, the School has now taken root here, in the cross-border city of Nova Gorica, Gorizia, and its surroundings.
As part of the exhibition’s accompanying program, in cooperation with the Kulturni dom, we are organizing a special screening of selected student films on 15 October at 7 PM. In the framework of the Cultural Bazaar, there will also be a special guided tour of the exhibition for educators from across Slovenia on 22 October at 2.30 PM. Guided tours of the exhibition and workshops for primary and secondary school students will also be organized as part of Children’s Week. Independent of these events, additional guided tours of the exhibition will take place on October 1st at 6 PM and October 14th at 6 PM, led by Rene Rusjan, the exhibition curator and director of the School of Arts programme at the University of Nova Gorica.
And don’t miss the regular film screenings at the Kulturni dom Nova Gorica cinema:
- New Perspectives, showcasing the latest student film productions – 18 November at 8:15 PM
- Short Film Night – a special selection of short films for young audiences – 21 December at 5:30 PM
