This short workshop is designed to introduce the VR animation tool Quill by Smoothstep. It covers working with VR equipment to create animation, including storyboarding in VR, modelling, painting, asset building, rigging, animation and 3D export.
After the course, participants will be able to efficiently create and manage simple animations in VR with Quill.
The training will take the form of practical tasks, with simultaneous presentation of case studies and solutions. Participants will perform short exercises to get used to VR workspace, the controllers, VR layout and understanding virtual cameras and then be required to create short examples of animation.

Ruxandra Grabriela Popescu (known online as Ruxandra GP) is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She recently co-founded the studio Banana Shake Productions where she works as a Creative Director on developing VR games. Over the past 6 years, she has been primarily working on VR titles such as the Peabody nominated series “Reimagined” Volume I and II which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and at the Tribeca Film Festival. She also worked on “Galapagos with David Attenborough”, the VR mini-series, and recently directed the VR narrative “PEPITOS: The Beak Saga” during a creative partnership with Meta. In her spare time she runs VR animation workshops, streams and community events on the Virtual Animation Discord server. Her professional background includes working as a creative in the Northern Irish gaming industry and the kids TV animation industry on titles made for PBS Kids and Disney Kids.
