It is with immense pleasure that we announce that this year’s national recognition for life’s work in the field of filmmaking, the Milka and Metod Badjura Award, will be given to our long-time lecturer, close colleague and dear friend – Rado Likon.
This time, the expert commission for awarding, consisting of Špela Čadež, Andrej Košak, Lija Pogačnik, Sonja Prosenc and Milena Zupančič, decided that the Milka and Metod Badjura 2023 award will be given to director of photography Rado Likon, the first Slovenian graduate of the prestigious Prague film academy FAMU, who marked the Slovenian cinematography and television world with his immense talent and dedication.
“In the second half of the 70s, together with a generation of directors that included Rajko Grlić, Lordan Zafranović, Goran Paskaljević, Goran Marković and Emir Kusturica, he radically changed Yugoslav film /…/ His discipline and creativity are key in complex shots that range from play of light and shadow to dynamic shots in which the camera crosses the shooting axis and captures the actors from different angles. Likon is a master of creating artistic shots that capture the landscapes, customs and faces of the Slovenian people. His film photography always coincided with the narrative, regardless of subject or filming technique, and his influence extended to both cinema and television audiences.” — from the commission’s explanation.
